Classic Cranberry Sauce

‘Tis the season for some traditional treats. Cranberries are one of those things that really set the holiday season in motion for me as soon as I can find them in the grocery store. The clerk cashing me out usually isn’t too impressed with my excitement, and it’s only in recent years I came to notice that not everyone loves cranberries quite like I do.

If you find yourself charged with bringing the cranberry sauce to Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner this year, have no fear, this is a recipe that everyone will love. It’s more sweet than tart but doesn’t quite belong on the dessert table if you know what I mean.


1 1/2 cups fresh cranberries
3 orange slices
1/4 ground cloves
2/3 cup water
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons raw honey


  1. Add your water, cranberries, cloves and orange slices to a pot.
  2. Bring to a simmer at medium heat for 15 minutes.
  3. Remove orange slices, carefully.
  4. Add brown sugar.
  5. Continue to simmer until sugar is dissolved.
  6. Stir in honey, remove from heat and allow to cool.

That’s all there is to it! It isn’t as fun and festive as my Spiced Cranberry Sauce from a few years ago, but it has a time-honored flavor that your loved ones are sure to remember and adore.
