Have you ever wondered how your child would reach you if dialing your phone number was up to them? The first time I asked my oldest son what my phone number was, he recited the password to my phone and not the number to call it. Maybe it’s my anxiety or the mother bear in me but I felt really unsettled by that.
I tried to just tell him what my number was but that didn’t quite stick. I thought maybe I could write it down, or have it made into a bracelet like I’d seen on Pinterest, but then again those kinds of things can easily be lost. From all of the ideas that I had this seemed to be the best and is the absolute fastest way I think you can get your little to memorize your phone number.
- The first thing that you need is some kind of electronic device. I’m talking your cell phone, a kindle, a tablet of some type, really just anything that you can set a multiple digit password on.
- Now make your password the same as your phone number.
That’s it. Your child will do anything to gain access to those games, the apps in your phone they’re not supposed to mess with, the camera to take a dozen pictures of their own forehead. Tell them that your password is your phone number and recite it for them, make sure the password is always required, and just sit back and watch.
It took my son two days to memorize my number.
Once in a while, I quiz him on it just to make sure it’s sticking and so far so good. It’s just another way to give yourself a little peace of mind and I think it gives your child a little more confidence when they’re doing things to know that if they need to, they can get ahold of you with little to no help at all.
