Guess who learned something new! I’m stepping up my homemade cleaner game with this fresh little mix and you won’t believe what the new ingredient is.
The other day I was browsing through Pinterest and creating a board for home sustainability which is something that is very important to me. I have dreams of owning a home with a large enough yard for a small greenhouse, chicken coop, compost bin and some rain barrels. Pinterest is full of amazing ideas for creating an eco-friendly home and to create a healthier but also a less expensive lifestyle.
Anyway, in all my searching I came across a pin for a new cleaner.
Vinegar has been my number one defense against germs and bacteria around the house for some time and it’s great at fighting all of the nasties by itself but why not give it a little back up with an antibacterial and antimicrobial herb? I’ve been looking for something that wouldn’t be too harsh to spray on our furniture and carpeting to fight germs and also deodorize and this is going to be it! You can also use it to clean countertops and other furniture around your home, however, you have to infuse the vinegar with sage for two full weeks before using it so it’s not something that I want to be constantly using and running out of. I like my other cleaners for everything else.
What you need:
- White vinegar.
- Fresh sage.
- Glass jar.
- Spray bottle.
- Fill your glass jar with two cups of white vinegar.
- Break the sage leaves from the stem and insert all of the pieces into the vinegar.
- Allow the vinegar to infuse for two full weeks.
- Switch mixture over to a plastic spray bottle and add one cup of water.
Voila! You’ve made a germ-blasting cleaner that is safe to use on all surfaces and is free of harmful chemicals. Can it get any better than that? The recipe for this cleaner that I came across called for equal parts water and vinegar but like most of my cleaners, I upped the amount of vinegar. When it comes to cleaning around the house, especially when I have three little ones depending on me, I can never get things clean enough.
Unfortunately, my cleaner is still in the infusing phase so I can’t quite reap the benefits of this lovely jar of wonders just yet. The smell is really pleasant to me but I was thinking of adding a few drops of a Lemongrass Essential Oil just to freshen it up a little bit.
Enjoy and live well!
